“Leave ’em Rest” Memorial Arch Designed by Philip Simmons

At the entrance to the African American Cemetery at Drayton Hall on the day of the Memorial’s dedication. Members of the Bowens family and others whose ancestors are buried here, traveled many miles to attend, to share in Fellowship, and to read aloud the names of those departed but not forgotten.

Ancient Live Oak

Like Drayton Hall, this centuries-old live oak tree is a survivor of seven generations of family life, the American Revolution and Civil War,  and natural disasters; it figures prominently in the lives of the descendants and many others.
